501 Compton received the Citation Award for Mixed-Use development at the 2021 Westside Urban Forum Design Awards. Westside Urban Forum is a premier networking organization dedicated to discussions about land use issues that impact Los Angeles’ Westside. They are an elective group of architects, developers, planners, designers, and community members engaged in all facets of planning and development with a focus on the future of the urban environment.
Notes from the jury:
“The density here is very successful.” “We like that it mixes affordable housing with market rate and that it’s helping to create a community. Specifically, a community that would be natural to Compton – without gentrifying it, but improving it. That intention is important.” “We like the planning, and the Z shape across the site that creates two courtyards on either side.”
