This Pride Month and always, we honor and celebrate the contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals at GGLO, in the design community as a whole, and in the communities we design with and for. In honor of Pride Month, GGLO has made charitable donations to organizations that support and empower the LGBTQIA+ communities: Cocoon House, Lavender Rights Project, and The Community Center.
Cocoon House supports homeless and at-risk youth through outreach, short and long-term housing, and prevention efforts. Nationally, 20-40% of homeless young people identify as LGBTQ+, and approximately 30% of the young people served by Cocoon House identify as LGBTQ+. GGLO designed their Snohomish County building to support a comprehensive approach that ensures each young person is met where they are—both physically and emotionally. Meals, counseling spaces, a computer lab, classrooms, and recreation spaces provide important resources for those transitioning out of homelessness.
Lavender Rights Project is a Black Trans Femme-led, BIPOC trans-staffed grassroots organization providing advocacy, programs, and legal services for Black gender diverse communities. They also serve all Black gender diverse individuals experiencing homelessness in King County through their permanent supportive housing project, The House.
What began as an afternoon meeting in a northend Boise backyard became The Community Center (TCC), an organization committed to uniting the small LGBTQIA+ community in Boise. TCC provides educational and developmental programs and resources; and a safe, welcoming location for group meetings and social activities for youth groups, LBGTQIA+ support groups, women’s groups, and transgender groups.
As architects and designers, we strive to create inclusive spaces for all and we are proud to support these organizations that share that same mission.
