Affordable Housing

“In terms of green building, GGLO has been increasing their commitment, and becoming experts in the sustainable building field. When we said, ‘How green can we make this building?’ they were right there. We all agreed to pursue the most common-sense green strategies that we could.”

Betsy Hunter, Chief Real Estate Development Officer, Capitol Hill Housing

Broadway Crossing is an affordable housing project in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The development is a partnership between Capitol Hill Housing, S.E. Grainger Company, Walgreens and an involved group of community members. A Walgreens drug store occupies the first floor. The residential portion of the project includes a mix of two-bedroom, one-bedroom and studio apartments for families and individuals earning up to 60% of median income. Eight apartments are reserved for households transitioning from homelessness.

The design of the building places a contextually appropriate masonry, stucco, and metal facade on the street front with a contrasting playful, green courtyard in the back. Broadway Crossing is LEED Silver Certified and was the first Silver Certified, affordable housing project in Seattle.
