GGLO 2021 Promotions

January 11, 2021

GGLO is excited to announce our newly promoted staff! These talented leaders bring abundant and diverse expertise to Architecture, Landscape, Interiors, and Urban Design. We value their commitment to community, design, and sustainability, and the impact they have made as leaders within the firm. Join us in congratulating:

Carissa Franks, Principal

Carissa is committed to innovating the built environment through carefully orchestrating systems of people, movement, light, texture, history, biology, and technology. Her multifamily mixed-use project experience at GGLO has helped hone her sense for opportunities that come with the densification of urban centers. Carissa’s ability to articulate and build enthusiasm for design direction inspires her colleagues as well as her clients. This talent is also used to help prioritize and refine the quality of the firm’s design work. Some of her notable projects include the Northgate Mall Redevelopment, AMLI Pierside, and 624 Yale in Seattle.

Meaghan McDonald, Principal

Licensed as both an architect and as an interior designer, Meaghan designs to elevate human experience through a seamless, integrated approach to the built environment. Originally from Maine, Meaghan received her BFA in Interior Design in Massachusetts. She pursued her passion for exploration by moving West, living and working in Wyoming, California and Montana in High End Residential, Education, and Hospitality. After receiving her Master of Architecture from Montana State, she settled in Seattle and has focused on Hospitality. Meaghan believes collaboration and a shared vision between all contributors creates the most successful, beautiful and memorable architectural experiences. Some of her notable projects include Chambers Bay Resort in University Place, Via6 in Seattle, and 624 Yale in Seattle.

David Marshall, Senior Associate

David has always wanted to be in wild and natural places; a perfect lifestyle fit with his interest in landscape architecture. From the deep forest to a bustling city plaza, he is fascinated by the great gestures and subtle details that make compelling spaces. His interest in the materials and methods of landscape architecture extends to details and construction techniques as well as the latest in furnishings and plant material. Since joining GGLO, David has loved working with multi-disciplinary teams creating dynamic projects at GGLO.

Jeffrey Bates, Senior Associate

Jeff sees multifamily projects as a great opportunity for integrated inside-out design, and he appreciates the way they can “thread into” the urban fabric. He likes the opportunity to design at a variety of scales, from unit plans to urban district planning. Jeff’s design approach is to stay loose and generate options to optimize the best possible solutions. This can be achieved through pinups and input from others as he believes good ideas can come from anyone. The building types he enjoys working on are mixed-use urban infill projects, both high-rise and mid-rise.

Mark Rainville, Associate

Mark has 15 years of architectural experience with a variety of roles and project types including high-rise residential, commercial, student and multifamily housing, and city and county projects. Starting college in computer and electrical engineering, prior to completing their architectural degree, set the foundation for Mark to propel into a computational role. Mark’s desire to make computers work for humans rather than humans work for computers informs their decisions and project solutions. Humans are best suited for critical and design thinking, let the computer perform the repetitive and monotonous tasks. Mark has lived in three corners of the country from the Northeast to the Southwest and now in the Pacific Northwest. This has informed their interest in Passive House construction detailing to provide a low energy building envelope. Utilizing state-of-the-art design, weather and energy modeling analysis tools allows Mark to provide teams with actionable and timely data/information at all stages of a project.

Ray Sayers, Associate

Ray was a summer intern at GGLO before joining us full-time following his graduation with a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington. He quickly observed the need for healthier, community-focused design and focused his studies on designing solutions for affordable housing in the Puget Sound region. Coupled with his firm grasp of technical tools and sensitivity to human needs, Ray is effective at producing thoughtful architecture that promotes a positive, inclusive experience for users in any urban environment.

Sarah Pride, Associate

Sarah brings 10 years of multifamily and workplace design experience to GGLO. She is a Cincinnati, OH native and received her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of Cincinnati. Her background in classical music drives her love of the arts and inspires her designs in unique ways. Sarah’s ability to quickly express ideas digitally leads real-time design collaboration with clients and teams. She finds inspiration in studying human behavior, learning new technologies, and exploring urban surroundings.

SaSha Henry, Associate

SaSha joined GGLO after leaving the warm and sunny state of Texas. There she studied at the University of North Texas, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. Her enthusiasm for design has evolved throughout her career: today, SaSha wants to support communities through the practice of design and implementing healthy materials whenever possible. SaSha enjoys product research, detail work, and the overall technicality of creating space.
