“With any renovation, there are a lot of moving parts. However, GGLO made the process as seamless as possible from a design standpoint. The end result was not only a huge improvement to the building itself, but it gave the building a new life.”

Jason Childers, 2TenConsulting

The Patrician is located in the lush and livable area of La Jolla, a neighborhood within San Diego, CA. The aging look of the community no longer matched the client’s dedication to ‘living the best life possible’ and contradicted the ‘Jewel of the Sea’ spirit of La Jolla. The property was in substantial need of a renovation that positioned the community to attract an active independent senior demographic with enhanced amenities to enhance their lifestyle.

The Patrician sits at a cultural crossroads between urban sophistication and the casual beachside ambiance of its setting. This extensive repositioning focused on elevating the property while bridging these two ideas, creating impactful change for current and future residents. The design aesthetic is derived from its location, creating a synergy of clean traditional design elements framed with the inviting and casual attitude of La Jolla.

Residents and guests now enter into a bright and charming grand entry lobby with integrated reception, sales and lounge experiences. A custom metal art backdrop, incorporating the property’s palm leaf logo, acts as a focal point. Above, the second-floor space was opened by removing a solid wall that restricted views. A new glass railing enhances a sense of connection and community to the activity below.

The dining room and bistro, once dark and highly-compartmentalized, were enlarged to improve circulation for residents and serving staff. The bistro has been opened up to become a welcoming pre-function space for meals and parties, and the now unobstructed view gives a peek into the culinary spaces beyond and lets residents feel a part of the action with the chef.
