"My Grandmother moved to Atria Tam Creek about four years ago. During this time they renovated the entire place. The impact to the residents was minimal, and the results are beautiful!"

Janine B, Family of Resident

This LEED® Silver renovation of Atria Tamalpais Creek, an assisted living community located in Novato, CA, is a major renovation of an existing late 1970’s building and site to reposition the property to appeal to a broad range of local residents.

The renovation prioritizes opportunities to re-purpose underutilized common areas, creating new and enhanced amenity spaces in support of the Owner’s mission to address goals for sustainability. To attract and retain potential residents the renovation focuses on enhancing the quality of design, creating more amenities, and integrating sustainability.

The design concept for the redevelopment of this in-city senior living facility draws on the local context of vineyards and rolling hills. A pattern language was developed with the careful selection of refined materials and agricultural details. The extensive terraces, rich gardens, and generous trellised roofs are reminiscent of a vineyard estate. There was special emphasis given to creating strong indoor – outdoor connections for the common area spaces. An overriding goal is to create a sense of place and permanence for the residents. The design is welcoming, accessible and safe and the details are rich with herbal scents, colors, and textures.
